To date there are thirty extent sketchbooks in the Hendershot archive, containing entries from every decade of her professional life. Hendershot used her sketchbooks for many purposes some of which cross over with the works on paper. The sketchbooks testify to the deep interconnectedness of art and life experienced by Hendershot. Among the drawings and visual notes are journal entries, drafts of letters, travel arrangements, household accounting, shopping lists, and floor plan designs for the family home.
